What is the book about?
Mallory Shannon lives in Los Angeles in the year 2009. Suddenly, after a series of surprising circumstances she finds herself in a South Carolina plantation, far from the big city.
Mallory hears a voice one night calling out for help. She makes her way to the attic, where she finds a mirror. This is no ordinary mirror but a magic mirror! Mallory discovers she can walk through the mirror and end up back in time. Back to the 1850's in fact.
There, she makes friends with a slave girl named Prudence. Together, they must find a way to save her family from being sold to different slave owners.
You will hold your breath as you take a journey with Mallory and Prudence back in time!
Master Davidson’s back was turned to them; the lantern was on the floor. Mallory watched him open a secret door. He then thrust a large sack into the opening.
A few coins spilled out, and one started rolling right towards the girls! The coin was on its edge, slowly picking up speed. Mallory knew that if the coin reached the hall where she was hiding, the evil Mastor would see her!
Mallory bravely reached out to stop the coin from going into the hallway. She quickly pulled her hand back, while the Master scrambled on his hands and knees to collect the coins. He started crawling over toward the door where Mallory was hiding.
Mallory pressed back, hoping the darkness would hide her location. She looked down and saw the Master’s large, hairy hand reach out to grab the coin, just a few inches from her feet. She could smell his foul body odor and the alcohol on his breath. Would he see her?
